    Exactly what I needed

Just got it today, but this is perfect so far! I have a ton of different remotes for my theater room, with the drop down screen being RF and most of the devices hidden which makes IR a challenge. I was going to make an arduino control everything with ir and rf blaster, custom code, cloud integration to work with Alexa, etc. Would have taken forever. Instead, I found this little guy (nice and compact and sleek) which does all this for me with some simple setup. Watch the setup video btw, instructions aren’t great. I can say “Alexa, show time” and a routine triggers the lights off and a scene i created which turns on the projector, lowers the screen, sound system on, bluray player on, and selects Netflix. “Alexa, Shows over” and it all turns off, raises the screen, and lights back on. Pretty slick! Time will tell how it goes with any bugs or issues now.

Easy to setup and operate – as advertised

Bought this wireless hub to operate my Panasonic split AC unit. It was very easy to setup, and the most liked feature – Helthy Sleep – that allows you to set the temperature and fan speed profile for the whole duration of your sleep (sleep time is set seperately). With provided sensor cable you can also read temperature and humidity readings in the room. Can also be configured for other IR controled home devices.Highly recommended – I’ll be buying two more to get access to my other AC units from smartphone.

I ended up adding the Sewell IR Blaster (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074CNWJZV/) so I can control everything.ibroadlink.com/support – FYI your downloads don’t work.Roku 4K streaming stick no codes, and can’t learn – sent email.Optoma GT1090HR no codes, manually learned – screen uses RF different vendor unable learn codes – sent email.Unable to add additional buttons after setting up a universal Remote for device – sent email.Looking forward to hearing back. Hopefully once all codes are done the scenesmacros work. Also, very difficult to add the RM4 Pro device – it took about 20x attempts. It would have been nice to simply scan a QR and add the device vs. the manual setup that was required.

    Stopped Pairing After A Month

Update: After a few emails back and for with Broadlink, they were able to fix the problem on their end. Not perfect, but good service. The device stopped pairing with Google Home after a month. None of the suggested fixes (on BroadLink’s website) corrected the problem. It still works as a stand-alone app and with Siri.

    Great integration and support

This device is great to automate devices in your home using Homekit (with the Homebridge plugin). The BroadLink app is still needed to initially connect the device. For me BroadLink’s support was great, I recently had to contact support when I couldn’t find the app in the Apple App store, they quickly responded and fixed the issue.

    It works (kinda)!

We have a Broadlink Pro 3 model and had issues using it with a particular model fan (we have 4 of these fans), so when we found out the new version was out, we opted to try it out and see if the “upgraded” device would now work with our ceiling fans. Unfortunately, it does not. It seems to work with the light, but not the actual fan controls. However, any other devices that we have programmed to it, it has worked without issue and its integration with Google Home is awesome too (this was also available on the version 3 model too), so we decided to keep the unit and will gift our old unit to a friend or family member who wants the capability of controlling IR/RF devices with WiFi.

    RM4 Pro S *Top* Potential — App Interface = still evolving…

No thickness, no sheerness.*But…The Broadlink RM4 Pro S (with temp and humidity sensor) is a superior product.I’m taking my time, learning to get full control(IFTTT can muck things up 😶 – learn Broadlink App Routines!),but I love the challenge, and developers are improving things, all the time. 👍I really want this device, and all its control data, to be OFF the cloud and ON my phone or some other local solution. With plenty of positive, expert and explicit how-to info available online (YouTube, etc…) I’m somewhat motivated to dabble in Raspberry Pi setup and programming, but I’m still not finished exploring the capabilities of the Broadlink App.* Thickness? Sheerness? Does anyone else find these ubiquitous feedback attributes moronic? Amazon?!!! What the feedback page Formatting??!! Gaaahhhhhh!!!

Wow, very impressed how much it can do with basic setup and this low price point.

Where has this product been all my AV life. Long are we pushed to products that are okay, but largely too expensive to consider truly. I have used a lot to make my home theater a bit more easy to work with and use daily, but this little low cost item is one of the few “ah ha” moments I have been suggested by a friend. I thought the only real considerations were Harmony in this segment, and dont get me wrong, I like those, but for simplicity sake and such a low cost, this cant be beat. Paired with my Roku Ultra, Viewsonic 4K 150 Inch Projector, Yamaha RX-V685, and surround speaker setup. Loved it, considering more to help with remote and home automation.

    Selling used hub as new

I received my item and the packaging was a little strange, with no plastic wrap around the device. I followed the instruction to add It to my network without success, I then realized it was a used product with someone else WiFi info stored. I had to reset it and now it’s working, very disappointed about the service, but the device does the job very well and I’m pretty impressed about it.

    Doesn’t do what I want

I bought this product to remotely control a TV and possibly some other devices for a handicapped person. Here’s what I found:1) it works over the same wifi network to provide a local wifi remote for a Roku TV. Great. But one can’t use that remote over the internet. This is of course possible, the Alex Roku skill will control the TV from anywhere as long as there is an Alexa set up on the local wifi network. I can for example tell Alexa in my house to turn on the TV in the other person’s house, set the input, etc. The Broadlink device clearly CAN communicate over the internet since I can use it remotely to control IR devices in the other house. However I suspect that the RM4 doesn’t actually “do” wifi remotes, that is a function of the app.2) When setting up IR remotes, NONE of the devices I had were pre configured. So 100% not matched despite the claim of 95% match.3) The RM4 didn’t come with a USB power adapter. Obviously one is likely to want to plug it into a power source.4) It didn’t work with the XFinity remote. Seems like a frequency issue. The particular frequency of that remote is not supported. For my use case Alexa worked and this didn’t. Also Comcast has an app that works remotely (over the internet) to control the Xfinity box. Too bad I don’t have some automated curtains I need to control. The only thing I’m using this for now is to monitor temperature. In Celsius.

    Mostly OK.

Installed easily enough, controls my TV and integrated with Alexa. My only grip is with the instructions. They are printed in a 0.2 font, using a gray color. Impossible to read and near impossible to photograph. I went to the company website and that was no better. Hey! Not everyone has superhuman vision. How about making instructions for normal people??

    Flawless!

We decorate the house for Christmas. Over the years, we have collected a number of remotes to turn Christmas Lights on or off. It is inconvenient to go through several different remotes and that is if we can find them. This device learned all the remotes – especially the RF ones. Then added the skill to Alexa who immediately discovered all the programmed devices. We created a skill so now when we say “Alexa Merry Christmas”, it plays jingle bells and turns on all the Christmas lights. Then if we forget, they are automatically turned off at midnight.

Couldn’t setup on Android, otherwise works well

Android setup failed as shown in the attached picture. Iphone setup worked fine. 5 stars if the android setup worked. The cloud based sharing of configurations worked well, the android phone picked up what the iphone setup.I used it to replace an RF fireplace remote. I discovered that the fireplace remote actually sends 2 “commands” with each button press, for example: set flame to 2 and set fan to 4. This required programming a button for each combination to be controlled. Not a problem as that’s just how the remote worked.

IR working, rf not working for me

Originally i had issues getting anything to work. It just took me to a screen that looks like a Remote, but it is not connected to anything and I had no buttons anywhere to connected to anything. Anyway, somehow i got out of that loop and connected my projector. Learning each button took a minute but was fairly painless. I wanted a scene with that and my roku, but the roku is not supported in scenes. The next device I wanted to integrate with is RF. The manufacturer of the device couldn’t tell me anything about the frequency at which it operates, so I took a gamble purchasing this Broadcom unit. Unfortunately it does not seem to work. So basically I can control my projector from my phone. It was very easy to integrated with Siri, which is nice.

Great Way to Automate Remote Controlled Blinds

I purchase eight battery powered remote controlled solar window shades from Lowes a couple years ago, I had to press button on the remote control to lift the shades up or down, when I’m out of town on vacation I wanted a way to open and close the shades and the BroadLink IR/RF Smart Home Hub-WiFi IR/RF Blaster solved my problem, the BroadLink app is very easy to use, now I can program the shades to automatically lift up in the morning and down in the evenings without having to press the remote button, all eight blinds lift up/down at the same time.

    Didn’t function as advertised

I bought the IR/RF PRO unit to add functionality to my Google Home, specifically to control a Honeywell tower fan, a Sony Stereo, and my (RF 433Mhz controlled) kitchen blinds. The Broadlink app is good and “worked” well in some areas. First, if you don’t have 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and only 5GHz Wi-Fi, this device will NOT work. The device needs 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi to connect. I had both in my home, so set it up on that. Two Wi-Fi modes to connect, but it connected.Once connected to Wi-Fi, with app installed, you add devices. App had groupings. I selected fans. They you can either learn IR buttons manually, or use preset codes from many available brands. I found Honeywell, none of 2 presets were compatible. So, easily added Power On (,Power Off), Speed, and Sweep (Oscillate) to pre designated buttons by learning from my remote. They all worked with the app. Sony Stereo, success with one of the “Sony” presets, but only On/Off, Mute, and Volume Up/Down. Couldn’t change stereo modes, or tune channels. So, with JUST the App and fan control okay, stereo limited, but worked. The RF controller for my blinds didn’t work at all. I called Broadlink tech support and they said it wasn’t compatible with what I had, despite me having the 433MHz RF remote for my blinds to learn from.Specically they said, “BroadLink devices do not support motorized or rolling codes. With rolling codes, the remote and the receiver each generate code in a specific order. Every time the remote is used, it generates a new code that is encrypted. BroadLink devices do not offer support to encrypted appliances.”I then added the Broadlink device to Google Home. That worked easily. It detected my fan and Stereo, then I assigned them to my Living Room in hopes all functions would work. NOPE! The only Fan control provided was for on/off but no control of fan speed, or fan sweep/oscillate. The Stereo(/Amplifier) didn’t load at all, even after unlinking/relinking Broadlink device, and reseting everything as recommended by Broadlink. Summary; stand alone app okay to control IR devices (but limited function), poor integration and loss of device control with Google Home, and RF functionality (for me) wasn’t compatible with my blinds, and not sure whose blinds would be.

    Improving control

Update 27-Oct-20: Changing from 2 stars to 4 as the vendor has really spent time effort and communication with me showing real interest to increase compatibility and correct issues. I’ve also learned a bit more about IR remote control – there are a lot of different protocols/techniques used and there is no standard. So it’s very challenging – probably impossible – to be 100% compatible with every IR device. Fortunately, one of the main things I want to be able to control with this looks like they will be able to get working!Update 19-Oct-20: Changing from 1 to 2 stars as the vendor has replied – so far not any fix. Read updates at bottom.Have wasted lot of time with this poorly engineered product, and the bottom line is: It WILL NOT connect to my TP-Link Archer A7 router (2.4ghz wireless).I have tried lots of things, including even disabling wireless security, changing the support for A/B/G/N, etc. The same thing happens every single time: this Broadlink device makes attempt to connect to the router, but it fails. I can see the Broadlink mac address as it connects to the router with 100% signal quality, and it shows in the wireless devices for a second or two, disappears, and will keep repeating the unsuccessful connection attempt.I have a spare older Netgear router, and in my troubleshooting set it up. This Broadlink will connect to it – but it’s not the router I want to use. So, is the problem the TP-Link or this Broadlink? I would have to say it’s the Broadlink because I have never had a problem connecting any wifi device to the TP-Link, including Amazon echo devices, Google home devices, smart plugs, smart thermostats, phones, notebook computers, etc., etc., etc.Extremely disappointed, but not entirely surprised as I look at other reviews. As I see it, there’s something funky about the wifi setup/firmware on this device and it will work with some 2.4ghz routers, but definitely not all. So, even if it works for you, would you want a device that may not work in the future if you change/upgrade your router?UPDATE 1: Was ready to request RMA to send it back, and thought, well maybe I should at least see how it would work if it could connect to my network, so I hooked my old Netgear router up to the Internet, connected my phone and setup the Broadlink device. After it connected and finished the initial setup, it immediately downloaded from the internet new firmware. Aha. So, with that maybe it will connect to the router I actually use? I then put the TPLink back to the net and the Broadlink back to setup mode and….. It now connects to the TPLink router….SO, we have a product that ships with bad firmware that prevents it from connecting to at least some routers/wifi, and the only way to fix it is to connect to a router/wifi and download new firmware! What really needs to happen is the vendor needs to re-flash these things before sending them out as new product….UPDATE 2: After getting the hub on my network, started adding my remotes. No issue with TV, but had immediate issue with my set-top-box which is a Cisco ISB7150 – a ‘cable’ box with DVR provided by Hawaiian Telcom for their ‘cable’ provided by fiber using IP technology. I didn’t find the remote listed by BroadLink, so tried to add it as custom. No matter what I tried, it would not learn a single button. Believe me, I tried and tried and tried. I have 2 remotes that can operate the stb – the one provided by Hawaiian Telcom (URC 2025B1-BB) and my old Logitech Harmony 650 which is perfectly able to learn any of the remote codes and is in the Logitech database. Almost ready to give up, I noticed a BroadLink database listing for: Iptv Cisco! (Under ‘I’ not ‘C’). Well, that worked for the basic function of the stb, but none of the DVR-related keys are programmed, and many of the “less-used” set-top buttons as well are not there – with no success in getting BroadLink to learn any of them.I rec’d the product from Amazon on Sat. BroadLink support is “5×24” no Sat/Sun. But on Monday I did receive an email response from BroadLink to my problems. They acknowledge firmware update can resolve some compatibility issue with wifi (but that’s catch-22 for most people as it requires connecting to a different router before it can be fixed and there’s absolutely no mention of this potential issue anywhere). And, I was told they will change the database listing from ‘Iptv Cisco’ to ‘Cisco Iptv’. And, I was asked more about the remote that can’t be learned as if they are interested in addressing that. Will see what happens….Finally, my ultimate goal is to use this with Alexa, and that does seem to work, but until I can get the STB remote functionality, it’s too limited to be useful.

    Works but setup has quirks

I wanted a way to control my outdoor awning with Google Home, so I bought this used with major discount. My awning is controlled by a Spettmann MSRC-SA 433MHz remote, and it took a few tries to get the Broadlink to learn the buttons. The biggest thing that helped is specifying the decimals for the radio frequency (433.92).Linking to Google Home also wasn’t as obvious, because the linked devices does not show up in Google Home – you have to create a scene in the Broadlink app. Then you can create a routine in Google Home to control that scene.Brand new would cost close to $50, and I’m glad I didn’t pay as much – the quirks did not make it feel like a $50 device

    cheaper alternative

It works for most of my ir and rf controllers in one room. However, it doesn’t work for rf controllers that are outside of the mhz range. Many of my controllers have no off button but have a gradual progression of on on on leading to higherspeeds then turns off. That of course is not the Broadlink’s fault but it’s a limitation of the item I want to control.

Nice and Economical Way to Make IR and RF Device Integrate with Smart Home Assistants

I have the RM4Pro now controlling 8 banks of lights (14 sockets) that were previously just controlled with a 433.29 [Mhz] BN-Link remote and 315 [MHz] Westek RF remote. The RM4Pro is also controlling my Sony receiver, Samsung TV, and Samsung DVD player. The IR signal strength is very good, and works in the same room from about 25 feet away and through a metal grate in the cabinet doors. The RF signal strength is also very good, and I control sockets in cabinets and on different floors of my house. The RM4 Pro is very stable on the WiFi network and I have never had it drop or not be found. However, the Broadlink app is not more convenient than a physical remote control, and is less well laid out, and has less button mapping, than the apps that come with my receiver, DVD, Lights, etc. The real improvement is the ultimate goal of controlling the RM4Pro with my smart home assistant. I use G—-e H–m Assistant (“GHA”), one of the two Alexa competitors. And this works pretty well. The switches have to be set up as “bulb” in Broadlink, or GHA won’t recognize them. The control with GHA for the receiver/DVD is basic: on and off. But I really only wanted to control the lights, and the other device on-off control is really “gravy.” If you want to control more, like volume, changing source, etc., you should use the Broadlink app, physical remote, app that came with the device, or set up scenes in Broadlink (then you have to use the “activate scene” terminology in GHA).Con: I accidentally included sub-devices, temperature and humidity, when setting up the RM4Pro, and I cannot find a way to remove them without starting all over. Given how long it took to learn all the remotes and buttons, I actually ordered the sensor cable so that they will be functional rather than have to set everything up again. The sensor and humidity are interesting, in that they confirm my thermostat readings and are more precise (to two decimal points).Note: The RM4Pro cannot control Bluetooth controlled devices, like a PS4 or FireTV; but they do not advertise that they do, and could not do so without cooperation from the manufacturers anyway.Con: If you have a 5 [MHz] and 2.4 [MHz] WiFi broadcasting the same SSID, you have to disable the 5 [MHz] when setting up, or the device won’t connect.Con: I had some trouble getting the RM4 Pro to connect to my WiFi LAN. I tried about 7 times, and, after the Broadlink app connected to the device, it just kept failing when trying to send the SSID and password to the device. I tried in AP mode and smart mode. I unplugged it and re-plugged it several times, and one time and it finally worked. Be persistent and keep resetting the device. Once set up though, it has been rock-solid.Con: This device does not come with a USB power supply. You must supply a USB micro that can put out at least 1 amp. I tried an old supply that put out 0.7 amps, and the device was flaky with this underpowered power supply.Overall, this Broadlink device paired with RF/IR is a much cheaper way to get smart on-off control than buying lots of smart lamp sockets individually. I’m already paying a significant amount to control overhead lights with Lutron’s Caseta hub system as I slowly replace switches for $150 a pop as I get the version with the built-in preset and matching Pico remote and pedestal. Conclusion: I’m actually very happy the RM4 Pro solution the more I use it. Now I am going to buy some of the RM4 Pro’s little brothers, the IR-only remotes, to hit some IR fans in other rooms. Looking at some information on-line, it looks like I’ll get the on-off functionality with GHM easily, and will have to use Broadlink’s scenes for oscillate, speed, etc.2021.06.10 update: Con – No Ethernet over USB support, so must use WiFi.

Works much better than other similar products

Used it to get simple controls of items that have a remote but are not “smart” devices. I found if you are trying to get it so Alexa has control of your device set up “scenes” in the Blink app that comes with this. You can get Alexa to do it, but it works better if you do the fine tuning in the Blink app and then just hav3 Alexa run the scene.

Button names you create are not sent to alexa

The Broadlink device and app work pretty well on their own. Easy to understand and it learned the RF codes mostly on the first try. I was able to control all four of the ceiling fans in my house from just one device. However, it did not meet my expectations and needs for use with Alexa.

    Has potential but disappointing

Updated to 3 stars. Still can’t get blinds to work but was able to get fan light to work. Alexa won’t see a fan light but if you make a scene in broadlink app that turns light and fan on, then I can get Alexa to do it. It’s really nice not to have to fumble with a remote to turn a kitchen Exhaust fan light on while trying to cook.I purchased to control a set of blinds and a kitchen exhaust fan. The fan I got connected and working in app great but Alexa won’t show an option for a light which makes this almost useless for voice commands. As for the blinds, I cannot get it to program for smartwings blinds. I’ll keep playing around as it has potential however it’s disappointing in actual use so far.

Has a learning curve, totally worth it

The only reason I’m not giving this product a 5* review is that they are misleading with how it works with Alexa, and that it has really a weird learning curve. Other than that I LOVE this thing!I’ll try to teach you what I’ve learned so that, hopefully, you can love this device as much as I do.Firstly, if the item is in the database, and you add it in via the database, then it will become a scene immediately. It has to be a scene to connect to Alexa. Also, don’t forget you need to add broadlink as a skill in your alexa app as well. If it’s not an item in the database then you can add it as a “user define”. I prefer to add items as a user define, I’ve found that it works better for me in the ifttt and alexa apps. If it is a user define you must make a scene for each individual button you add IF you want that button to have voice control. Let’s say my fan remote has 3 buttons: power, oscillate, and speed. I wanted to be able to tell my fan to turn on and oscillate, but I don’t care about controlling the speed of the fan with my voice. I would only make two scenes: one to turn on the fan, and one to make it oscillate. I could still control the speed via the broadlink app or the remote itself, but I wouldn’t be able to voice control it.Let’s learn about voice control, since it’s a little weird too. You can only turn scenes on in Alexa. Meaning I can’t say “turn off fan” you have to say “turn on fan off”. As a side note, all this device can do is emulate the buttons on your remote so technically you should just say, “Turn on fan” to get it to turn off, since most power buttons turn the device on and off. Controlling devices vocally through scenes themselves is hard and extremely confusing. So make it a TON easier on yourself by using alexa routines.Routines are life.I have 3 different devices with three different remotes that I have to use every time I want to watch TV or play video games. Instead of having to fumble remotes I can say three words to Alexa and she will turn my TV on, my soundbar on, and the TV switched to the correct aux device almost immediately (pics of what some of my routines look like). It operates from top to bottom, so first it turns on my TV, then my sound bars, then switches to the auxiliary cord my nintendo switch or fire stick is plugged into (depending on which routine I trigger). Most of my routines are voice activated but they can be activated by time, action, location etc.My smart home, and remote count, is drastically improved by this affordable device.

1+ Year Review, Still Loving it! 😍🤩

Amazingly, I bought this little device over 1 year ago. It has been continuously plugged-in & working flawlessly ever since! I literally use it daily with Alexa voice commands to control multiple devices around the house. I control my TV; ceiling fan; mini-split AC Unit; and a bunch of cheap IR outlet plugs that I have connected around the house. At first, the phone App used to be clunky and weird-looking, but now it feels and looks more polished. However, I rarely use the app since I have all devices controlled by voice or automated routines. This little device connects via WiFi and can basically learn the signals of any RF or IR remote controls. You point the remote to the Broadlink and it learns it. So I bought a pack of dirt cheap IR outlet plugs here on Amazon. I made several appliances smart and able to be controlled with voice commands or automated routines. This now includes my printer; paper-shredder; power outlet next to my bed (to avoid overcharging my phone at night); LED lights strips behind TV; and high capacity external HDD connected to my main computer. The benefit of using IR plugs versus WiFi plugs; is that WiFi constantly consumes data and bandwidth frequencies on your WiFi Router. Which leads to slowing down your WiFi. Also the more WiFi devices you have the more potential security holes you have in your home network for hackers. Thus, this device helps solve these problems. The cheap IR plugs help turn any dumb devices to smart devices. I believe Broadlink also has their own brand of smart outlets but I have not used those. The pro version that comes with an indoor temperature and humidity sensor cable (pic attached) costs a bit more. However, it is totally worth it since you can use it to set up automated routines to turn on/off your AC unit or dehumidifier once your indoor temperature or humidity reaches a certain level. The only 2 inconveniences about this device are; (1) device does not come with wall USB-A wall power brick, you have to provide your own; (2) that the “sensor cable” (which also powers this device) is way too short. I guess optionally you could get a USB extender cable if necessary. Just wish it had been a little bit longer. I just connected my Broadlink next to my nightstand since it is closest to my bed in order to get the best temperature reading for when I sleep. Also comes with optional wall mounting attachment. I definitely recommend this device. Well worth it for its versatility of multiple uses and longevity.

So far… not so good. Devices won’t setup, even if manually trained

Update:1. (2021-04-20) After multiple identical attempts, finally our Yamaha AVR connected. It’s basic features now work. Other more advanced will require our other components to work.2. (2021-04-20) After multiple identical attempts, our LG TV still won’t connect properly. Manually teaching the remote doesn’t work at all (see attached images). RM4 recognizes the remote’s button push but simply refuses to learn. No amount of “try again” fixes this.3. (2021-04-21) Have been able to connect our Oppo blu-ray player using a submission in the community section. Still no luck with the TV; along with the AVR, it’s the essential piece to add. We ordered a Harmony Companion as a backstop because we’re on the cusp of giving up on this. As a result, we’ll be tightening our belt to offset the $100 difference.Original: (2021-04-19)1. Why we bought this: create scenes that would allow our Yamaha V6A AVR, LG 50UN7300 TV, oppo BDP-93 Blu-ray player, and Apple AirPlay 2 switch more seamlessly (this Yamaha AVR is notoriously screwy on that front). In our living room, we’ve been using a Harmony hub for years. Now that Logitech is shuttering that business, we are seeking an alternative for this other room. I desperately hoped RM4 would do the trick. So far, not so much:2. The process so far: setup was a little wonky but not bad. Only smart device on our large network it discovered is a single Roku. Went to add the above-mentioned brands. The interface gives four common options that should be able to control the device without teaching button-by-button. None of these options worked for any of the above devices.I programmed the LG and Yamaha button-by-button. It’s an intuitive process, which is great. The LG buttons worked during the setup process but not once I left setup to actually use it, which is bad. The Yamaha wouldn’t even learn the buttons. Also bad. I also saw no indication (yet) how I might be able to teach it HDMI switching.3. I called tech support 24/day, M-F. Took three tries. Rep was nice but line was unclear. I had to repeat the above situation multiple times. I’m told I should get a response “from engineering” within a week. I have had enough experience with “engineering” not to hold out hope because it will eat into the return window. I will try calling again later to see if I have better luck. A brand new device shouldn’t need a weeklong ticket on day one. If it is a user error (which it could be!) then I need phone support, not for a department to fix a problem. I can’t know on my end and the communication, while polite and well-meaning, was not, shall we say, “frustration-free.”I have no reason to think the unit is defective. The setup for devices is idiot-proof so having gone through it several times, well, I might be an idiot because I can’t get these to work at all.On the plus-side, if it DOES work then the form factor is great, the iOS interface is… a step above okay. The temperature/humidity sensor worked out-of-the-box. I can’t speak to Alexa integration beyond the fact it was easy to connect them. So, first impression is generally bad. In truth, it feels like 1-star but it’s too soon to know. I’m glad others are not having my experience and genuinely hope that I can edit this review to match their enthusiasm. If not then I suppose we have no choice but to spend triple the money on a Logitech that is now at the end of its run, which is a shame on many fronts.

Unique solution for very remote control

My mother is in assisted living memory care but still loves her baseball games but can’t easily use the remote control for the tv. With the broadlink system I can control her tv set from my cell phone 100 miles away! It’s made her life a lot better! Took a bit of fiddling on the setup, but got it without any tech support.

Great bridge for Roth + Allen blinds to Alexa/Echos

Works like a charm. iOS app is reasonably easy to use. Added 3 blinds and set up Alexa routines in 10min. I did rename the ‘On’ to ‘Open’ since I am using it for motorized Roth + Allen blinds (with an RF remote… each blind has a built in RF number/frequency).The key in Alexa is to use Routines and a variety of Voice prompts. Alexa even recognized them as Shades!Example for raising all shades: Open Shades, Shades Up, Open the Shades (for my wife, she likes a variety of prompts). Add all 3 to one Routine so they all open at once (or close or stop).A single shade has a default of something like “Alexa, Open the right shade” (I have Left, Middle and Right but you could number them). You could use routines for other up/open/lift/raise/etc prompts.Much cheaper than the bridge that a big box store was selling.

    Fixed: Wrong Remote Type

Update: It was not an IR remote.I think I got a defective one because everything is working fine, but it won’t learn my remote buttons. It’s on the wifi, the app has all the features, it’s connected to Alexa, but when I go to learn buttons it won’t do it. The indicator flashes, everything does what the instructions say, and nothing…. it’s as if it can’t recieve remote signals.Meanwhile my appliance is going nuts because I’m hitting the remote so many times (So my remote definitely works) …. disappointed with this product…

    Needs More Work

The BroadLink RM4 Pro IR/RF Blaster appears well built. For this device to be controlled you need the BroadLink app for iOS or Android. Electrolux brand (which owns Frigidaire) is supported by the BroadLink app while Frigidaire is not.The only way to get the BroadLink app to remote IR control my Frigidaire window A/C unit was to put the app in “learn mode” (for selection ‘my brand is not listed’) where I would use the Frigidaire remote to program the A/C unit as I desired it to operate then turn it off. Then put the BroadLink app and device in “learn mode”, point the Frigidaire remote toward the front of the BroadLink device and press the Frigidaire Power On button. The BroadLink app encountered multiple errors both trying to learn just the Power On button and then the “+” button options which I can only describe as “scenes” (temp/fan/mode/auto/energy-saver settings). I’ve attached a screenshot of that error screen.Note (another screenshot) that in the “Me” section of the BroadLink app I have my settings set to “Fahrenheit” but for my Frigidaire A/C unit the app’s device control screen is still showing Celsius. BroadLink tech support, who did respond quickly, says they’re still working on the Fahrenheit issue. The BroadLink app has zero effect doing anything other than powering on/off the Frigidaire window A/C unit. BroadLink support informed me that they’re working to add additional brands like Frigidaire and my model in particular. I’ve also included a screenshot of the BroadLink app’s remote control screen for the Frigidaire A/C unit.Moving on to Alexa control. You must add the BroadLink skill to Alexa to control any devices via the BroadLink device. When my “AC” device was added to Alexa it shows up as a ‘thermostat’ not as an ‘air conditioner’. The only command Alexa will acknowledge is “Alexa turn off AC”. This will either turn on OR turn off the A/C unit. If you say “Alexa turn on AC” Alexa responded “AC doesn’t support that”. I’m guessing this is because the device type is misclassified as a thermostat and not an air conditioner (see attached screenshot), but I don’t know precisely why this occurs.I’ll update this review in coming weeks and months depending on how the app and device operate including with Alexa. At this time I don’t any RF devices to test with so I can only talk about IR functions.

    Not enough Alexa integration

I had a fairly easy time setting it up. It is compact and comes with a mounting plate. However, the integration with Alexa for devices like TV and Set-top boxes is limited to the point that it really can just turn devices on and off. Integration with Alexa routines is limited. Comes with a sensor cable to report temperature and humidity. Even that isn’t supported in an Alexa routine. I would consider keeping it as a learning remote that is accessible via my phone. However, the phone app for button layout is also limited. You can’t have a single layout on the phone with buttons that combine TV and the set-top box. The button layouts are static and not configurable; you can’t move change the layout nor add/remove buttons. Unused buttons are still displayed. If you touch the unassigned buttons it requests that you assign a IR code to them. You can only assign IR codes to them. You cannot assign a series of IR codes to a single button to let say turn on the TV and set-top box together. As such, even as a configurable learning remote it falls seriously short.

    Mostly compatible with Google Home

I purchased this as an accessory for Google Home. I use it to control my living room entertainment center and my ceiling fan. The functions for the entertainment center that translate to Google Home are very elementary – change channel, on and off. I cannot pause my DirecTV box or restart, nor can it control the volume. Also, it doesn’t recognize on from off – it just sends a signal. So, if the TV’s off and it gets a command to turn the TV off (via a Bedtime Routine), it will turn it on. Same with the fan and the fan’s light. You can, however, control the speed of the fan with Google Home, so that’s a nice feature.

    Marginal Support For Siri…

I can’t recommend this device for any kind of Apple based device control. Their support web site is unusable when accessed by Safari, at least using iOS. Their latest software update says it support Siri, but it’s very flaky and apparently only works if you have their App running and in the foreground when you issue a Siri command (making it useless). Ugh…

    Lots of Bells And Whistles

I bought this specifically to use as a smart remote to control one item in my house with my Google Mini. Never did I thought that I would be able to control my entire home movie theater with this Broadlink. Very small and compact to start with so it is easy to tuck it away somewhere in your home to keep it out of sight. The app is for the most part user friendly but you do need to have some knowledge on how to program universal remotes to get the full potential. I love how you can build scenes on the app and Google Home recognizes the scenes and you can trigger them with a simple voice command once you program the Broadlink scene(s) into your Google home. The one con that I am finding is that being that it is IR technology, you would want to place it where the components that you want to control like you would with a regular remote controller in a place where it has almost a clear line of site to the said components.Aside from that, it is a great IR Blaster and having the RF technology onboard is an added bonus.

Issues setting up on android. Iphone worked fine.

I have both a harmony hub with a remote and this broadlink rm4 pro i just got today. Set up was easy on my iPhone however it was a nightmare on my Galaxy S7 (and im an android person) i kept getting errors as well being told it wouldnt work on my network. Had i not tried it on the Iphone i probably would have filed a return. Now for the actual product, its very small, easy to hide. The harmony hub is leaps ahead in terms of ease of use and UI. The only benefit this one has , is it includes a universal RF controller which ive gotten to work great with my lights and other RF devices that the harmony would not do. In my opinion one is not a replacement for the other, however harmony was a lot easier for me to setup. Over all though the device works, and i couldnt find anything else that offers this. Hopefully the android issue was just something i experienced.

App Doesn’t Work, Couldn’t Add Anything

Don’t waste your time. I downloaded the app and was not impressed. Horribly complicated signup and setup process. Then when adding the first device, a fan, the app wouldn’t allow me to learn the remote. It asked for the frequency of the remote (who even knows that) but when I actually found that data, the app action button to “accept” the frequency just disappeared. Useless. I restarted the app, uninstalled it and reinstalled and even used a different phone— nothing. The app makes this device useless. Non-functional. No wonder they’re giving discounts— it doesn’t work.

Very Satisfied with the RM4 pro Function

Very nice, I connect my device in living room with no problem at all, added my smart tv, air conditioner, fan, air purifier, very fast and linked it to my existing Google nest mini to using with speak assistant with no problem at all.I can use my google assistant to on-off, set temperature of my air conditional with no problem at all –> my air conditioner brand found in the library can fast to add it.I use my google assistant to on-off my fan –> because my fan not common brand so I use learn function to learn from my fan ir remote control with no problem at all.I use my google assistant to on-off my air purifier –> same as fan my air purifier is local OEM brand so I use learn function to learn the it remote control and add the devide to broadlink app with no problem, after add the device I also link it all to google assistant.I can use my google assistant to on-off my tv –> Same as my air conditioner, my tv is LG smart tv so added to broadlink device with no problem at all with the library data.Very satisfied with the result, actually can set condition in broadlink app for the devices but since I just set up today so will do it later.Actually before I tried the same product with other not famous brand same device, it can add my tv to the device and used with google assistant, but other devices only can add by learn the remote control but only can use my phone as remote, the learned function couldn’t use in my speak assistant normally. Very disappointed. Then I decided purchase this “Broadlink RM4 pro” and try it, all function normal and link to speak assistant with all devices also operate with no problem by the speak assistant. And the temperature & humidity sensor also function with no problem in broadlink app, I can add it to my speak assistant but not yet know how to use it with speaking. ;DThank you, very happy. Recommended the item.

Dont’ buy if you have a wifi mesh network

Nowadays, all companies are trying to facilitate the installation and configuration process of their products, and some of them achieved a “zero touch” or automatized flow but Broadlink have not started to work in this, the installation process is almost similar to how was install periphericals in the 80’s or 90’s. I came to believe that it would be necessary to download a driver, install it first and then try the remote control installation again. It is almost impossible to install a broadlink if there is a good wifi network, if someone has a wifi mesh network it is best not to buy this product.Broadlink says that the remote control needs a 2,4GHz wif network (old fashioned network) but the app does not accept to install the remote control when the wifi network is mesh type (2,4GHz + 5GHz + band steering)!!!!, and the problem is the app!, not the broadlink. I had to use a very old smartphone (it just support 2,4GHz for wifi) and the app finally accepted to install the remote control using the wifi mesh network!.The application has other nonsense problems, for example is not possible to register using google account, it is mandatory to create an user in the broadlink app and then select apple or google account!!!.After some hours trying to install the first broadlink it has finally worked and it is fare to say that works very well, the IR signal is better (coverage angle) than the original remote control of my air conditioner

Cannot get to work with alexa

As mentioned in the title, despite hours of messing around with this unit and resetting and restarting I absolutely could not get this to integrate with Alexa. I was able to control devices remotely using the broad link app, but the devices would not show up under Alexa devices, which is why I bought this – for voice control. After all, what’s the point of using my phone as a remote control when I have the actual device remote control?!? The ONLY thing Alexa recognized was the temperature – but not the humidity. So the added skill in Alexa WAS working, however no controllable devices appeared. I saw in other reviews you have to use “scenes” to get this to work, I couldn’t find that option in Alexa – so it’s looks like that feature was removed. On the subject of “rolling code” RF devices: I’m sure you’re likewise asking yourself what that is, and more importantly how to know if a device uses them. Long story short there is no way to know (manufacturers don’t advertise this), but suffice it to say that if you have anything more advanced than cheap-o Christmas light remotes it probably has rolling code. This is not so much for security, but more to prevent the wrong remote from controlling a device. I bought this to control a dust collector remote in my wood shop, but it wouldn’t work due to rolling code.I’m honestly not sure why the manufacturer hasn’t implemented rolling code, it is very common. In fact most devices that have a button to “link” the remote is a rolling code learning feature. If you do link this up, and the device only turns on or off once using the app it is using rolling code.I also tried linking this to a remote outdoor switched outlet (Christmas light control) and it would only turn the device on, not off.I really wanted this to work, but without getting the Alexa component to integrate it is a rather useless brick, and an expensive one at that.I can confirm that this unit was a dual RF frequency unit, tested it with remotes on 315MHz and 433MHz bands. Usually the remote lists a frequency, but if not, the app can “search” for the frequency which is a really cool feature. This device is **almost** there, but Alexa not working is a deal breaker, that’s what I bought it for

    A bit tricky

This is a bit tricky to set up and the only issue I have is that sometimes it forgets my appliances, but overall using it in conjunction with a Blink camera, it helps me keep an eye on the temperature in my room and what’s going on in there when I’m not there. It’s pretty good. I’m sure there must be a more reliable one out there though.

Controls our motorized Norman roller shades

This device does a good job controlling each of our three motorized roller shades. You can also set up a group so it controls all your shades at the same time. Our motorized shade has a customizable mid position feature which is triggered when holding down the stop button on the remote; unfortunately I could not figure out how this Wi-Fi device is activated as a hold button.

    Not There Yet….

I returned mine because I was missing my return window with Amazon… its not there yet. I had issues with my smart shades after the Shade Store decided to remove the app from the Play Store for their first gen hubs. I was able to control the shades and it automatically discovered “up” or raising of the shades but not lowering them.Another issue I had was with my X-finity receiver. It discovered the receiver correctly (you have multiple templates to choose from) and I chose the one that had everything including the channel numbers but were greyed out. The channel numbers which were grayed out indicating that they may or may not work and recommendation is to manually add them. The funny thing is, manual adding failed for the greyed out channel numbers worked perfectly! I could not use the greyed out numbers through Alexa etc.

Avoid if your router was made after 2015

I don’t usually write negative reviews, in fact, this is my first. But when faced with such a truly awful product as this, I feel it my duty to warn my fellow humans what frustrations await them when you purchase a Broadlink RM4 Pro.To be fair, I don’t know if this device will control IR or RF products or even sync with Alexa, Google Assistant, or IFTTT, as promised. I actually CAN’T know that because I couldn’t get past the installation. For a device marketed as a bridge for the smart home market, this device is anything but smart. In fact, its designers had so little disregard for their customers that they thought it acceptable to exclusively REQUIRE 2.4ghz WiFi in a device sold in 2020. That in itself would not be so bad, there are plenty of older, dumber, simpler devices that use this frequency but Broadlink appears to have gone out of their way to ensure 5ghz dual band systems absolutely, positively, cannot be compatible with their product. As evidenced on their support site, which actually recommends that first you disable the 5ghz band for as long as you use their product. Disregarding how unacceptable it is to recommend one stop using a superior technology that was finalized over 11 years ago, the site further recommends that if you cannot disable the band, then you should try to walk far away and see if it’ll connect to the 2.4 band then, or install a temporary router or hotspot with the same SSID/PW. If those methods fail, you should simply get another router. Easy peasy.I actually tried the first two recommendations because I really didn’t want to have to through the trouble of returning… also because I’m an idiot. So after walking down the street with phone, Broadlink, and USB battery bank in hand on 101* day with no results, I setup the mobile hotspot on “phone B”. The issue then arose that, because again it is the year two thousand and twenty, my hotspot was inundated with connection requests from 80+ devices throughout the house wondering where their precious network went. So after shutting off power to the house (yes, really) and manually killing multiple tablets, a couple of UPSs, and a smattering of cell phones, I was finally within the hotspot’s capacity to connect.Only nothing happened. The same stupid app giving the same stupid message. “Could not connect”. 5 days and uncountable hours later, I’m done. I’m sending it back and posting this review. If you have a router made in the last 5 years or have more than 10 devices connected to your network, run away. This device will not work. It is a device marketed to smart home hobbyists, but built for people who have 1 PC hardwired to Facebook for the “news”.I know this review was initially to serve as a warning, but at this point I just don’t care anymore. This was my therapy. If nobody reads this, fine. At least I have bled the poisonous Broadlink experience from my system. Thanks for the refund, Amazon.

Great product. It works well with my Hubitat Hub

I do have to say that this is a great product and works well with my Hubitat hub. I can control my AC units with IR and use RF for all kinds of controls. It also works well with TVs but I just use it to turn them off because I prefer the actual remote for day to day usage.

This universal remote really is universal

Really useful for controlling non-smart devices. I use it for my soundbar, TV, HDMI switch, etc. The RF control is also a huge plus; I have a plug controlled by an RF remote, and within a couple minutes, I could control it with my phone, effectively making it a smart plug. I was also surprised how well it worked at different angles; it still managed to control my TV despite being on the opposite side of the IR sensor and being partially blocked by the soundbar.Had to take off a star for the app forcing you to use an account, even just getting the device to connect to WiFi for local control. I use Home Assistant to control this, and according to the guide for the HA Broadlink integration, you have to quit the app when it asks you to assign it to a room, as doing so will disable local control. This is very counter-intuitive for people who just want to use the device locally.Although I didn’t have an issue connecting this to a dual-band router as others have, it is a bit odd that Broadlink chose not to support 5GHz, since the standard has been around for over a decade. However, for those that are having trouble, here are a couple tips:- You can probably disable 5GHz on your router temporarily. On many brands, you can do this by changing “WiFi mode” from 802.11b/g/n/ac to 802.11b/g (or b/g/n) or something similar.- As long as your network also supports 2.4GHz, you can always go old-tech and just move out of range of the 5GHz signal.

    Decent hardware buggy software/app

The hardware looks to be good but the app has a long way to go to make it user friendly.I got this to replace a universal remote for my Vizio TV and Yamaha Soundbar using IR, and also to control another device which uses RF. Overall the hardware works well as expected but it was extremely difficult to setup the app to work with my devices. The Vizio TV setup was okay using the search feature to match the brand, but it did not have all the functionality that my physical remote does. Additionally some of the buttons were incorrectly programmed. For example the number keys would send the wrong channel number e.g. pressing 4 would send #3 to the TV etc. So I had to use the learn mode to program the correct number keys. Many other standard functions were missing and I haven’t found a way to “add” buttons to teach it new functions. The Yamaha Soundbar was not available through the brand search. They had receivers and amplifiers but no soundbars. I could select a Yamaha amplifier to get the power and volume working, but once again I could not program/add buttons for other features of the soundbar e.g. sub-woofer volume, input selection, or changing sound modes. The RF device had to be manually programmed and it was not too difficult, but I would have liked the option to customize buttons with an appropriate graphic or an option to import my own graphic.Google, Alexa, and Siri integration is pretty basic. For example, I can ask Google to turn on the TV and Soundbar, but unable to change channels or volume through voice command. Siri via voice does not work for me, but I am able to use Shortcuts to add buttons that initiate pre-programed functions in the app.All in all, it’s able to handle the basic funtions I want but I would like more customization options in the app. I would say, if you like to tinker with gadgets and smart home devices, you may like the challenge, but I would not recommend this device for novice users who expect plug-and-play functionality from their devices.

    Works but needs some improvement

Product has worked for majority of what I wanted it for. It says doesn’t work 5GHz and mesh wifi but I have the google nest mesh, the router and 1 access point. BroadLink pro recognizes my network and connected to it no problem. In google app I do see it is connected to 2.4GHz. I had a feeling it would work fine because other smart devices say the same but connected fine. I didn’t have to do anything special with my router or phone to make sure it connected to 2.4GHz. As for the remote part. It recognizes a roku tv I have on my wifi network automatically and is in app without programming it and has all the functions the roku app remote offers. As for other things like a space heater by twin star it doesn’t have as a model but I’m able to program each button press and assign it to a button but button names aren’t accurate and u can’t rename a button which I think is a big miss seeing how if they let u add remotes not in their database that they prob aren’t gonna have the same name buttons. I have a shark air purifier which is a big name brand and shark was not listed in their database and had to manually assign buttons to their generic app remote and didn’t have proper name buttons to match and once again a renaming button feature should be available. The range for the remote to work isn’t that great but maybe it’s cause the remote is one that has to be aimed at the appliance. I did unplug it for a day or so and nothing was saved except my wifi name and was able to auto put in password for it.I’m using iPhone 13 pro max

Only If You’re Up for A Challenge

Let me start by saying: I’ve *mostly* got it working . . . after many hours of effort. The Harmony remote I was using for my bedroom A/V system is about to die, and I didn’t want to purchase another Harmony (since they’re discontinued), so I thought I’d give this a shot. Whole different experience from Harmony.First, BroadLink did not recognize *any* of my devices, so everything had to be built from scratch. That meant learning every IR command for each device from the Harmony. But it worked, and I can now control all of the devices from my iPhone as promised. Then it came time to construct scenes. Unlike the Harmony (which walks you through this process quickly and easily), Broadlink pretty much leaves you on your own to figure out how to get everything to do what you want–and their scanty documentation isn’t much help. But after a lot of trial and error, I eventually got everything to do what I want.I’m still struggling with the Alexa integration, however. I think the problem is that if you name things a certain way, and create Broadlink scenes a certain way, and then decide that it would be better to have used different nomenclature and programing, you have to get Alexa to “unlearn” what you had done previously and then “relearn” the updated settings. So while I get consistent results using buttons in the Broadlink app, I still haven’t been able to get Alexa voice-commands to reliably trigger the correct scenes in the correct way. I’m pretty good with tech stuff though, so I’m sure I’ll get it working once I have a few more *hours* to spend on setup. Not for the tech-challenged, the impatient, or the feint of heart. Consolation is that this thing is *way* cheaper than a Harmony remote.

    Almost good

I am surprised at the lack of documentation and/or a detailed step-by-step setup guide. The guide that comes with the unit is confusing and almost useless. I am a career techie, and it took me way too long to figure out how to get the thing up and running. I have been able to configure both of my brand-name TVs to work with the controller. I have brand-name sound bars on both of those TVs and cannot get the controller to work with either of them after 3-4 days of tinkering. So, I’ve given it a rest. I found no help or detailed documentation on the Internet to get either one of the sound bars configured. “Learning codes” instructions just has not worked.I am good with the way the controller works with the TVs. Once the TVs were configured, integrating the features with Alexa was straight ahead… Especially for people who have configured Alexa skills previously. If/when I can get either one of the sound bars to work, I will give this unit another star.

Difficult to Set Up, Didn’t Support Fan

What I liked:Easy to integrate into Home Assistant.Easy to make it learn ir codes using HA.Small, no LED while operating. What I didn’t like:Difficult to set up. Mostly because it only operates on 2.4. Modern wifi routers run on 2.4 and 5, but it’s not always possible to turn off 5. So, I used an old phone as a hotspot, gave it the same SSID and PW as my network, got the device to connect, then it connected to my main network. But it took about 10 attempts to get this to work which tested my patience.Something was rattling around inside the device when I got it. No idea if some important bit inside was broke off.It would not accept the signal from my RF controlled ceiling fan remote, no matter how I tried. FWIW my fan is a Ashby Park 52 in from The Home Depot. A very common and popular fan. Conclusion:I ended up returning the device as it could not perform the main task that I bought it for.
